ANITAS JOURNEY

Anita Goa is American born and Norwegian raised and educated. Living in a country where physical activity was part of her every day life, Anita hated any form of physical activity. She was a couch potato. At the age of 12 Anita’s father sent her on a trip to America for the summer. During this stay she fell in love with dance aerobics and Jane Fonda became her Guru. Anita started teaching aerobics classes in her hometown in Norway at the tender age of 13. All through her school years she taught aerobics to make pocket money. Little did she know this was the beginning of her career as a fitness professional.

After graduating college in Oslo, Norway in 1993 she moved to New York City with 2 suitcases,$700 in her pocket and big dreams in her head. For 4 years Anita taught an average of 20 aerobics/step/body conditioning classes a week. Exhausted from all this work she prayed for new opportunities and in 1997 Anita discovered Beryl Bender Birch’s book “Power Yoga” and immediately started studying Ashtanga Yoga with Beryl, and a whole new career as a yoga teacher started.

Eager to learn as much as possible about yoga, the journey took Anita to study with numerous teachers of many different styles in America as well as at the Bihar School of Yoga, in India.

Yoga rejuvenated Anita’s body, mind and spirit, but after a few years of only doing yoga she felt called to integrate fitness into her yoga practice. Yoga was enough for her mental and spiritual practice, but didn’t feel enough for her physical body.

On Anita’s journey everything happens organically. She always follows her intuition and created the Goa System, which uses yoga as the foundation for working out in the gym. This system caught McGraw-Hill’s eye and they published Anita’s book ‘Your Best Body Ever’ in 2004.

Anita became a mother to Lars in 2007. While adapting to the challenges of balancing her role as a mom with her role as a yoga/fitness trainer, her time for the gym became minimal. Anita started to incorporate her Goa System on the yoga mat and in the process developed a yoga inspired fitness workout she calls Fitness Vinyasa.™

Anita is not “just” a yoga teacher or “just” a fitness trainer, she is a fusion of both. What you get from working with Anita whether it’s privately, in a group yoga class or on YouTube is a very down-to-earth approach to yoga and fitness, which creates an environment where every one feels inspired to push themselves to their fullest potential. Anita believes that working out should connect you to your SELF, be done with lightness of spirit, while being serious about giving results.

She started offering yoga and yoga inspired fitness workouts on YouTube in 2010 and has been featured in numerous publications, among them Fitness Magazine, New York Times, Cosmopolitan, as well as TV shows like The View and the Today show.
